Flight Coordinator
Elevated Access is seeking highly motivated individual with a passion for mutual aid and reproductive justice, especially bodily autonomy for the position of Associate Flight Coordinator, Flight Coordinator, or Senior Coordinator. We utilize a combination of volunteer pilots who provide free flights, and commercial airline tickets, to assist those seeking abortion and gender-affirming care.
We are looking for the best candidate and will consider individuals seeking part-time or full-time, six-month temporary or full-time employment. No prior flight coordination experience or aviation knowledge is required. A person in this position will use an understanding of aviation and the ability to manage high volumes of flight requests. Coordinating flights includes making calls, sending texts, maintaining flight data, and onboarding new pilots. The main responsibility is to communicate with pilots and partner organizations to facilitate connecting passengers and pilots.
This position is fully remote with opportunities to travel but not required. With the remote nature of this role, the ability to use online platforms is required. Elevated Access prefers someone with an understanding of web-based applications and online platforms including Google Workspace, Airtable, Slack, Clickup, Signal, and Dialpad.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Effectively coordinate flight logistics with volunteer pilots, partner organizations, passengers, and more to ensure safe access to care
Communicate with pilots, passengers, and partner organizations
Promptly answer phone calls and emails
Compassionately communicating with volunteers, passengers, and other stakeholders
Conducting phone calls with pilot references to confirm mission alignment
Using good judgment and critical thinking skills in response to ambiguity
Ensure pilots and clients complete documentation prior to flights
Troubleshoot and develop backup plans in case of flight cancellations
Provide guidance & support to first-time flyers
Participate in rotational on-call schedule to address flight coordination needs outside of normal business hours
Maintain accurate flight and pilot databases
Engage in pilot recruitment, retention, onboarding, training, and reference checks.
Basic Qualifications
Passion for social justice and in particular reproductive justice that includes gender-affirming care
Excellent understanding of intersectionality, the interconnectedness of systemic oppression, and other societal impacts on our work and clients
Alignment with the values of Elevated Access, especially the reproductive justice framework and being people-first
Non-profit experience or a strong desire to do non-profit work
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, detail-oriented, self-driven environment
Excellent data entry and computer literacy skills as well as the ability to learn new technologies
Excellent communication, work ethic, and problem-solving skills
Excellent customer service and case management skills
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
Each preferred qualification or skill that a candidate possesses will improve the ranking of their application; these are not required. A pilot license, airline crew experience, non-personal airline booking experience, aviation-related degree, or advanced technical experience with our technology platforms is required to qualify as a Flight Coordinator. At least two years prior experience as a flight coordinator in a volunteer pilot organization and taking on additional responsibilities beyond flight coordination will qualify an individual for Senior Flight Coordinator.
Pilot license or significant knowledge of general aviation
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an aviation-related field
Experience with airline travel
Understanding of weather and weather impacts on aviation
Knowledge of the general capabilities of general aviation aircraft models
Knowledge of airline flight booking procedures
Speak and write Spanish fluently
Skilled in platforms/software such as HubSpot and Zapier
Compensation & Benefits
Elevated Access is a people-first organization with a small staff team and hundreds of volunteers. We want people to be their favorite selves when working for us, whatever that looks like for them and their capacity. To that end, we publish salary ranges with our job openings. The annual salary range for these titles are $50,000 to $80,000. An individual interested in part-time work will be paid an hourly rate between $24 and $38 per hour.
Benefits include insurance, 401(k), paid leave, and holidays. Our leave time includes 13 paid holidays and flexible time off as needed for illness and healthcare including doctor appointments for yourself and your immediate family. We ask that our employees take 15 at least days off work each year beyond weekends, sick time, and holidays. Additional time off is granted at the discretion of the Executive Director depending on workload. We take additional rest days as an organization as well. We provide start-up equipment to help create a dedicated workspace in your home.
